Overview

The UK offers several work visa routes, including the Skilled Worker visa (for eligible jobs with a licensed sponsor), the Health and Care Worker visa, and Global Business Mobility. You typically need a job offer from a UK employer approved as a sponsor, and the role must meet salary and skill requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

Eligibility

  • Job offer: From a UK employer with a valid Skilled Worker sponsor licence.
  • Skill level: Role must be at RQF level 3 or above (equivalent to A-level).
  • Salary: Usually at least the general threshold or the going rate for the job (whichever is higher).
  • English: Proof of English language ability at B1 level (CEFR) unless exempt.
  • Funds: Ability to support yourself until first pay; certificate of sponsorship may cover this.

Required Documents

  • Valid passport (with at least one blank page).
  • Certificate of Sponsorship reference number from your UK employer.
  • Proof of English language (degree taught in English or approved test).
  • Job title and salary stated on your Certificate of Sponsorship.
  • Evidence of savings if required (e.g. bank statements for 28 days).
  • Criminal record certificate if your job requires it.
  • TB test result if you are from a country where UKVI requires it.

Application Process

  1. Secure a job offer and Certificate of Sponsorship from a licensed UK sponsor.
  2. Complete the online Skilled Worker (or relevant) visa application on gov.uk.
  3. Pay the visa fee and Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS).
  4. Book and attend an appointment to provide biometrics and submit documents.
  5. UKVI will assess your application; processing times vary (e.g. 3 weeks standard).
